We've been toying with the idea of developing a windows application to manage Live Content modules on a DNN site...primarily use would be to add, edit, and delete elements from a desktop environment.

It would basically allow quick management and possibly include support for offline mode. For example, I'm flying from west to east coast on a 5 hour flight and have nothign better to do than update my site. However, there's no internet but I can still add elements and when I connect to interent next it will be auto updated...

WHY THIS THREAD?

To see if there's any community interest in such an application. Please share your ideas and feedback here so we can better understand the requirements. Thanks

Anything to make adding elements easier would great. For me, I create alot of eFrames but they almost all have the same default values except Title, url, dev mode tag.

That would be an excellent addition.

Brilliant idea, especially in SA, where line speeds suck.

I can't see a need for it myself (Would I ever need to only update just this one single module on my site? - No, more likely I'd be updating several other modules as well), but it's fine by me so long as the module's own online management tools don't suffer as a result.

DNN is primarily a live online content management solution and there is a risk that overall module usability might suffer if we end up with a bunch of offline tools for managing specific modules. It's development time possibly spent in the wrong area.

This might explain what I'm getting at a little better:

It's a bit like Windows Live Writer... it's a great and useful tool for use in conjunction with the blog, but as well as being restricted to Windows users, it just avoids the real issue - that the online blog tool hasn't got any usable image management. In the case of the core blog, I would prefer to see development time being spent on improving the module itself rather than relying on an offline module to overcome usability issues.

So, I'm not saying no.. I just don't think an offline tool for a single module necessarily improves the content management experience overall.

After spending some time with it yesterday, I'm sure there is plenty of room to improve Live Content's existing online workflow. One of the above posts mentions a desire to be able to re-use common or existing values. That makes good sense and I felt the same when I kept having to re-edit items to find out what group names I had used. The same would go for tags if I had been using them.

Anyhow.. just some thoughts. Keep up the great work.

I think this an awesome idea! I mainly use live content for photo albums and I need it to be easier for my wife. Move elements around on the web interface is way too slow. Also it would be great on the client to set a size limit for photos and have them auto-resize before upload. My wife has no concept that she needs to resize the 8MP photos off of our camera before she uplaods them to the web! Also, be able to set the thumb nail size....

Oh, and I posted it somewhere else, but pulling the title and description from meta data stored in the picutre would be awesome. I hate entering meta data more than once....

Thanks Chad,
your meta data suggestion is very useful and we'll try our best to implement in v2.0
