Would it be possible to add a new token that represents the link but without file extension?  This way it would be easy to provide alternative files (videos) for download.

I actually suggest two new link tokens:
[link_short] = same as [link] but without the file ".extension"
[link_name] = just the name of the file without ".extension".  With this token it would be possible to provide links for download from alternative locations.
