What is Live Content?

Live Content is an Web 2.0 Presentation  module for DotNetNuke Platform...

Live Content uses Web 2.0 approach to provide a Rich User Interface  and streamlines content presentation by overlaying content on current page. Inspired from our Live Images/Videos module, Live Content allows to overlay images, videos, text/html content, dotnetnuke modules, and external content on current page. Driven by CSS and Layout Templates; this module is limited by your imagination to create Image/Video Galleries, Product Showcase, ToolTips, Module Popper, etc...

Description doesn't justify this module, see the demo and experience it!

Module Highlights

  • No plugins like Flash or Java required.
  • Popup blockers are no problem. The content expands within the active browser window.
  • Single click. After opening an element (image, video, text/html, module, and/or external content), user can scroll further down on the page or leave the page without closing the overlay. User can also open mulitple elements without closing other elements; great for comparison between two images or product comparison.

Live Content is made up of "ELEMENTS"

An element could be an Image/Picture, Video, Content (Text/Html), DotNetNuke Module, and/or External Content (any web page)

Live Content supports following 5 elements:

  • ePicture
  • eVideo
  • eContent
  • eModule
  • eFrame

Show multiple element types within same module to create rich, interactive, and user friendly web 2.0 presentations

ePicture - Element

Quickly create visually stunning Image/Picture galleries:

  • Supports Jpeg/Jpg, Png, and Gif file formats.

  • User can add a single picture or an entire directory (zipped) of pictures to the gallery.

  • Bult-in thumbnail generator which creates thumbnail on fly to your specified size. Orignal images kept intact.

    • Saves disk space and provides different sizes of thumbnails from single image
    • Provides quick response time and performance by caching the images

  • Specify Title, Alt Title, Caption, and Thumbnail Size for each Picture

  • Module can render either a image link (thumbnail) or a text link (using picture's title)

  • Module can automatically resize high resolution images to fit in client's window; an icon is automatically generated for the user to expand and see the original version.

    • If resize is required, admin can specify a minimum width and minimum height to keep regardless of user's client's size.

  • Navigation bar provides quick access to move image, close image, or change between other images.

eVideo - Element

Create visually stunning video galleries by either uploading your videos or integrating online videos.

  • Supports Online Vides: YouTube, Google Video, iFilm, MetaCafe, and Stage6 Divx.

  • Simply grab the URL of the video page and Live Content will take care of the rest.

  • Supports Other Media: Flash Content (.swf) and Flash Movies (.flv)

  • An offline video converter is provided to convert your videos to .flv format.

  • Specify a thumbnail / preview image and size file for video.

  • Specify a width and height for video.

  • User can specify a Title and Caption for each video.

  • Combine templates with eVideo element and create complete video library

eContent - Element

Allows you to create visually stunning tooltips and other text/html driven applications such as announcements, advertisements, product information, etc...

  • Allows you to overlay any "Text/Html" content

  • Specify a thumbnail / preview image and size file for content.

  • Specify a width for content.

  • User can specify a Title and Caption for each content element.

eModule - Element

This element opens endless possibilities; show your existing faq module with Live Content. Why limit yourself, we use this for quick login access for our users as well to display existing Text/Html, Documents, Events, and other modules on portal

  • Allows you to overlay any "DotNetNuke" module

  • Smart Persistence automatically launches the module again at postback*

  • Specify a thumbnail / preview image and size file for module.

  • Specify a width for Module.

  • User can specify a Title and Caption for each content element.

* Modules require postback to process user input (unless it's AJAX driven) and therefore the page reloads. For example, the core FAQ menu displays an answer when a user clicks on the question. However, to display the answer, the page reloads. Live Content uses smart persistence to remember the state of the element. If it was left open and page postbacks (reloads), then Live Content will automatically launch the element. Checkout our eModule page for demonstration

**Note: Smart persistence only works with postbacks. Some modules simply redirect user to same page; in this case, smart persistence will not work. Also note, module's action menu may not work when shown within Live Content.

eFrame - Element

eFrame provides yet another dimension of flexibility in Live Content. Simply provide a valid URL and the content will be expanded within active browser window. Checkout our tutorials page to see how we're using this element. This is a great element to show non-DotNetNuke sites within your portal...

  • Allows you to overlay any "External Content "

  • Specify a thumbnail / preview image and size file for frame.

  • Specify a width and height for each frame.

  • User can specify a Title and Caption for each frame element.

Common Features - All Elements

  • An element could be set to Auto Launch which automatically overalys the element when the page is first loaded. Auto launch can be limited to Once Per Session Only

  • Each element can have Tags to identify the content; much like online sites such as YouTube.com and Digg.com. Clicking on a tag will link the user to other related elements.

  • Group Name can be specified on each element which "Groups or Combines" the elements with same name. Keyboard navigation as well as navigation bar provides access to grouped elements. By default, all elements are grouped under a same name. User can specify a different group name for related elements to create sub gallery's within a module.

  • Includes 3 Custom Data fields for greater flexibility and control.

  • Outline Style and CSS Wrapper Class can be specified on any element for customzied styling.

View Options

  • Specify # of columns, Layout Type ( Table or Flow), and Repeat Type (Horizontal or Vertical)

  • Live Content automatically pages the content based on Elements Per Page value

  • Live Content uses an open architecture for customizing and theming. Users can change the look and feel to match their site. Future version will include ability to create your own themes

  • Live Content provides ability to add "Overlays" on already overlayed elements. Overlays can be anything from advertisements to control panels for element navigation. Currently, only one overlay (ControlBar) is provided. Future version will include ability to create your own overlays.

  • Most importantly, Live Content allows the use of Templates which provides infinite flexiblity in presenting your content. Use the built - in tags to present your content in any format you desire. Some basic knowledge of HTML allows the user to create amazing applications with this module...

DotNetNuke Integration

  • We're really excited about our DNN Search Integration. Not only all of your Live Content elements will be indexed by DNN Search, the search link will show the user precisely what he/she might be searching for. DNN Search Links will automatically launch the element; so if your user searches for a Video or Image and clicks on any of the search result, he/she will automatically be linked to "Live Content" page and the element searched for will auto launch.

  • Export feature is implemented. It allows you to export the entire module configuration to an XML file. This is a great feature for backup or to move configuration from one module to another. Simply backup the folder (which hosts images, videos) along with the XMl file and you have a complete backup of the module. Easy to move between sites or different hosts.

  • Import feature allows you to import the XML file generated in Export feature.
